SHIFT HEALTH ACCELERATOR

Shift advances tangible shifts in power for communities to define a vision of health unique to communities across the US. Shift’s work builds networks of community leaders positioned to hold power and governance of health equity resources, advances participatory funding and community decision-making for diverse health equity initiatives, and explores institutional accountability and engagement to deliver on health equity commitments. Currently, Shift advances participatory investing in the health sector, community-rooted food and climate justice, and health equity training and facilitation.

ANCHORS IN RESILIENT COMMUNITIES

ARC’s work engages local anchor institutions and community-based organizations for collective governance of health, wealth, and climate commitments. ARC tests community-anchor institution co-design and co-investment to advance field-leading initiatives in the Bay Area and nationwide. 

BAY AREA REGIONAL HEALTH INEQUITIES COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

BARHII convenes health equity leaders from Local Health Departments across California. The Community of Practice focuses on Transforming Community Coalitions to Unlock Local Power and Community-Led Investments.

ALIGNING FOR EQUITY

The Institute of Women & Ethnic Studies spearheads a national place-based cohort aimed at aligning health care, public health, and social service systems and promote community leadership to advance racially equitable health and healthcare systems.

COMMON FUTURE PARTICIPATORY INVESTING LAB

The national Participatory Investing Action Lab co-designed an innovative community-rooted foundation investment model and toolkit for institutional leaders to test participatory investing.

HEALTHY YOLO

Yolo County Health & Human Services Agency serves as backbone for Healthy Yolo, a multisector initiative ensuring every child enters Kindergarten ready to thrive through community engagement, leveraging sector leadership and aligning funding resources. Yolo County also partners with the Health Education Council to spearhead a CACHI initiative focused on strengthening social connection in West Sacramento. 

FLORIDA CENTER FOR THRIVING COMMUNITIES

The Center is a statewide virtual resources for community-led Equity Action Labs focused on fostering community engagement and resource development for equitable, community-centered, and sustainable social justice efforts across Florida.

NEIGHBORWORKS AMERICA HEALTH EQUITY INITIATIVES

NeighborWorks convenes national leaders for an annual gathering. In 2024, the Emergent Learning framework guided participants to answer the core inquiry: How do we center the voices of residents to accelerate community transformation to create thriving, healthy places? Additionally, NeighborWorks convenes a cohort of Community Development Corporations to explore root causes of health inequities to create a Health Equity Action Plan, using tools available to the field to embed health equity more fully in housing and community development sectors.

METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION CARE PROGRAM

The Community Action Resource & Empowerment program builds on successful participatory budgeting pilots across the Bay Area region to facilitate multisector partnerships, community engagement, and resourcing of community-rooted transportation, climate, and built environment initiatives aimed at improving equitable health and well-being.
